Get ready, because a fresh perspective on Supergirl is about to hit the big screen, and it's unlike anything we've seen before! DC Studios is gearing up to introduce us to the 'Woman of Tomorrow' with Milly Alcock, known for her role in House of the Dragon, taking on the iconic role.
While the buzz around Avengers: Doomsday has been dominating headlines, let's not forget that Supergirl is slated to be the first superhero movie to grace our screens this coming June. This film, inspired by the acclaimed Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic book series, promises a cosmic adventure for Superman's cousin. We're also expecting to see Jason Momoa's Lobo make his DCU debut.
Thanks to USA Today, we now have a sneak peek at Milly Alcock in action as Supergirl. She steps into the role, succeeding Sasha Calle, who portrayed the character in 2023's The Flash. Before that, Melissa Benoist starred as Kara Zor-El in the Supergirl TV series.
DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran shed some light on the character's journey, stating, "Kara is such a different character than her cousin Clark... She spent the first *18** years of her life watching her planet die.*" This experience, Safran explains, has left Kara with significant trauma, setting her apart from her cousin's upbringing.
Regarding the casting of Alcock, James Gunn shared, "I knew that Milly was something special from the moment that she first auditioned with us." He even revealed that his wife, Jennifer Holland, played the role of Ruthye during the auditions, creating a deeply emotional experience.
But here's where it gets controversial...
The film, directed by Craig Gillespie, is set to hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
In this film, Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl, will be reluctantly teaming up with an unexpected companion on an interstellar quest for vengeance and justice. The cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa.
The production team includes Nigel Gostelow, Chantal Nong Vo, and Lars P. Winther as executive producers. Behind the scenes, the creative team consists of director of photography Rob Hardy, production designer Neil Lamont, editor Tatiana S. Riegel, costume designer Anna B. Sheppard, Visual Effects Supervisor Geoffrey Baumann, and composer Ramin Djawadi.
And this is the part most people miss... The film's unique take on Supergirl's character, shaped by her traumatic past, promises to be a fresh and compelling addition to the DC Universe.
