Hugh Jackman's Wolverine Legacy: A Record-Breaking Battle with Wesley Snipes
Hugh Jackman, the iconic Wolverine, has been captivating audiences for over two decades. But little did he know, a world record would be within reach, thanks to his fellow actor, Wesley Snipes. In a surprising turn of events, Snipes' return as the Daywalker in Deadpool & Wolverine not only earned him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records but also sparked a friendly rivalry with Jackman.
Jackman's Wolverine journey began in 2000 with X-Men, and fans thought his final farewell came in Logan. However, the actor's MCU debut in Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024 shocked the world. While Jackman aimed to break the record for the longest career as a live-action Marvel character, Snipes' return as Blade in the same film secured his place in the record books. Snipes' Daywalker character first appeared in 1998, giving him the upper hand.
During an interview, Jackman humorously expressed his regret, saying, 'If I had known, I would have banned him from the set.' This sparked a playful competition between the actors, as they now vie for the title of the longest-living Marvel character. Despite the friendly banter, Jackman acknowledges Snipes' achievement, stating, 'Actually, I'll put my money on Wesley.'
The two actors' relationship is further intriguing due to their history. While there were widely reported clashes between Snipes and Ryan Reynolds on the set of Blade: Trinity in 2004, they eventually buried the hatchet. Snipes' return as Blade received an outpouring of love from a new generation of Marvel fans, and it seems the actor is not done with the vampire-hunting hero just yet.
Daniel Richtman claims that Snipes will reprise his role as Blade in Avengers: Secret Wars, adding fuel to the speculation. However, the Mahershala Ali-led Blade movie for Marvel Studios remains a distant prospect. Snipes' surprise return to the Marvel universe was a result of a call from Ryan Reynolds, who pitched the idea after 20 years.
'I did not think it was possible,' Snipes said. 'I didn’t think we would be able to pull it off. I didn’t think that Marvel was into it, Disney was into it... I thought it didn’t make sense to me, but when you get a call from Ryan Reynolds out of the blue after 20 years, you go, 'OK, I got to take this call. Let’s see what this is about.' He told me the idea... They said 'yes' and 'it's a go.' 'If you’re in, we’re in.' Here we are.'
Despite the friendly rivalry, Deadpool & Wolverine, directed by Shawn Levy, received critical acclaim. The film stars an ensemble cast, including Ryan Reynolds, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, and, of course, Hugh Jackman. Henry Cavill makes a cameo appearance, adding to the star-studded lineup.
The film's success led to its release on various platforms, including Digital, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD, and Disney+.
