Huawei Smartwatches: Detecting Diabetes Risk Early (2026)

Huawei's smartwatches are set to revolutionize diabetes detection, according to a recent announcement. The company is set to unveil a groundbreaking feature at the 2026 World Health Expo in Dubai, which will take place from February 9 to 13. This innovative technology will enable smartwatches to identify early signs of diabetes risk, potentially transforming how we approach personal health monitoring.

The feature, currently in development, is called 'blood sugar management' and is designed to be a non-invasive, user-friendly solution. It utilizes Photoplethysmography (PPG) technology, which involves advanced sensors in the smartwatch to detect changes in blood flow. By analyzing PPG signals, the smartwatch can provide proactive wellness alerts, specifically targeting diabetes risk.

Huawei emphasizes that this feature is not meant to replace medical diagnoses but rather to raise awareness and encourage early consultations. The company's research has focused on neuropathy and microvascular arteriosclerosis, leading to the development of a dedicated Diabetes Risk app. Users can wear the smartwatch consistently for three to fourteen days to gather sufficient data, after which the app categorizes the risk level as Low, Medium, or High.

This groundbreaking technology is already available in the Watch GT 6 Pro and will soon be rolled out to other compatible models through an OTA update. With this development, Huawei is poised to make a significant impact in the field of personal health monitoring, offering a potentially life-saving tool to users worldwide.
