"But you know what? It's behind me now. It was just a minor scuffle and everyone could see the reality of the situation."
The flanker made a conscious choice not to linger on the controversy as footage of the incident circulated rapidly across various social media platforms and rugby broadcasts. "I didn't spend much time thinking about it. It happened, and I simply moved on to focus on my responsibilities and training."
At the time, the organization behind the Quilter Nations Series confirmed Etzebeth’s punishment after a thorough independent disciplinary hearing. They determined that the contact with the eye was indeed intentional, highlighting that Etzebeth’s thumb remained in Mann's eye for roughly one second, and noted that he persisted in this action despite attempts from other Welsh players to intervene.
Interestingly, Mann himself was not cited for any wrongdoing, even as online narratives attempted to paint the encounter as mutual. The disciplinary committee ultimately cleared him of any blame.
